Wiawso (WN/R), July 18, GNA ,The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Western North Region has declared its readiness to support government efforts in combating illegal mining (galamsey) and unauthorized logging within the region’s forest reserves.
At a press conference, the Regional Chairman of the NDC, Mr. Michael Aidoo, emphasized that illegal mining remains a major environmental threat in several districts and requires collective action to address. He noted that, unlike past disorganized and compromised interventions, the administration of President John Dramani Mahama has introduced a more strategic and unified plan to protect lands and water bodies, while also ensuring alternative livelihood options for those affected by anti-galamsey operations.
Commenting on recent viral videos alleging the involvement of Suaman District Chief Executive Vasco Obour in illegal mining activities using DRIP machines, Mr. Aidoo dismissed the claims as false, deceptive, and based on propaganda citing multiple investigations by the party.
He reiterated that the government remains focused on its development agenda, including road construction, job creation, education, and a structured approach to fighting illegal mining, and will not be sidetracked by misinformation.
Mr. Aidoo called on traditional leaders, media outlets, and other stakeholders in the region to collaborate with the government in addressing the illegal mining crisis. He also expressed deep gratitude to all groups and individuals including chiefs, religious leaders, youth, and residents for their strong support and participation during President Mahama’s recent Thank You Tour in the region.
NEWS HEADLINE REVIEW QUESTIONS
1.Does the image accurately represent the headline's message?
Yes. The image shows Peace Hyde on stage holding a microphone, actively speaking aligning perfectly with the headline that says she “speaks” at the UBA event.
2.What emotions does the image evoke? (Does it create urgency, sympathy,
or controversy?)
The image evokes confidence, professionalism, and empowerment. Peace Hyde’s posture and attire reinforce her role as a thought leader and respected media personality.
3.Is the image manipulated or biased? (Does it frame the story in a particular
way?)
No evidence of manipulation. The image presents a real time moment from the event without added drama or bias. However, the clean and well framed shot does position her in a positive light.
4.How does composition affect storytelling? (Consider framing, lighting, and
focus.)
The tight frame centers Peace Hyde, making her the clear focal point. Good lighting, direct eye contact, and the branded background (“Stronger…”) enhance the theme of leadership and growth.

It does both. While it reinforces the headline, it also adds visual proof of her participation and presence, giving authenticity to the report.

This is professionally composed and polished possibly better than general press images, making the story stand out more.
8.Is the image culturally or politically significant? (Does it reflect societal

or controversy?)
