Analysts Raise Alarms as Trump Administration Accelerates Rollback of Gun Control Measures
By Erica Amenya | Updated June 2025
Washington, D.C. – The Trump administration is facing growing criticism from policy experts and public safety advocates as it pushes gun regulations in what many describe as a deeply regressive direction.
Although President Donald Trump once appeared open to meaningful gun reform particularly after several tragic mass shootings during his first term, those early signals failed to translate into any concrete legislative action.
Now in his second term, the President has shifted course entirely. His administration is actively dismantling existing gun control measures, broadening access to firearms, and aligning closely with the most hardline elements of the gun rights movement.
“This isn’t just inaction,” said MSNBC analyst Steve Benen. “This is a full retreat from progress, it’s policy going backwards.”
Public safety experts warn that these moves could worsen gun violence across the country, putting more communities at risk. Gun control advocates are calling on Congress and state leaders to push back, warning that the administration’s actions threaten to unravel years of progress toward responsible gun legislation.
